Erik, As a drummer myself (Mmm... it's more than a year now that I haven't touched a stick) I could not let you in trouble. AFAIR, you have to set the virtual images with images of one variant then set normally images of all the variant including the one you choose for the virtual.
HTH but I doubt because it seems that you have already well set your images. Let us know...
