Dear James, Please take a look at the PartyRelationship Data Model. Check the Internal Organization role and party relationship types to better understand the relationship among different parties. In your case, you have organization as customer or purchaser, and its sub organization may place the order. Ultimately, the order will be placed by employee of the organization and/or sub organization. PartyRelationship resolves this complexity as mentioned initially.
