FYI: There is also a newer version on google code.

You do need OpenOffice installed to use JOD. 

Though I am not positive, I think JOD incorporates some o/s specific code which 
checks the default locations for an OpenOffice installation (ie on windows 
C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 3 ..). So as long OpenOffice is installed in 
the default location, it should be detected automatically (ie without manual 
intervention).
