he he, that's one of the issues that pure volunteer projects seem to face. People generally work on problems that affect them directly or on new things that interest them. Less attention goes into improve existing code, especially after the original authors move on or if it gets 80% of the job done. Everyone develops their own way of doing things and learn what to avoid. I've had similar frustrations. Struts 2 is very flexible but sometimes that results in too many options or partial solutions.
