The default implementation for Spring Boot's SLF4J is Logback (Note: Logback's last release was 2 years ago and has removed the JMSAppender). SLF4J walks the classpath to find/bind an/first implementation i.e., Logback. Hence, remove logback and add log4j. If your a picture guy (see attached) I changed spring boot from using the second column (the default), to use the third column.
