Sorry, I missed this thread. As for the original question -- you should first try with Merlin. Fortress is a fine container and certainly works well for standalone applications, but we are trying to reduce the total number of containers in Avalon at the moment. So work is underway to take features and aspects of Fortress and merge them into Merlin. So unless you have some specific need for Fortress, try Merlin first. As for Excalibur, Excalibur is comprised of a number of things -- an old component manager (ECM) which is deprecated and was replaced by Fortress, a set of components (such as the pool and thread and event components you mention), and some container utilities (such as excalibur-logging) which really don't count as components. Again, the same idea here is that there is some consolidation and updating effort being made. However, as long as you are not using the Excalibur Component Manager, you should be fine to use any other components which have been released. Let us know if you have any other questions. J.
