dear Martijn,
i'm not exactly a newbie, but never have
time to think about making my software work
"right" (almost no one else supports my use
of Cocoon, so i have to get everything done
before they realize i've used it!)
i have a couple of custom transformers, but
switched to using custom actions and generators
due to being unable to REPLACE the SAX stream
with a completely different one. every time i
tried it, the component below me received
nothing. the only way i got a transformer to work
was to forward (possibly filtering) SAX input.
do you know how to do this, and if so, could
you please point me in the right direction
(i could send code, sitemap snippets if needed.)
THANKS for any reply,
Chris Bouamalay

So, I suppose also that there's no a definitive answer to my

Action and Transformer are the old-school way to do the job, flow is

No, Actions and XSP are the old-school way, Transformers and flow are
both still very popular. Apparently there is some disagreement about
when flow is better and when transformers are better. I have no opinion
on the matter, but to me, transformers are usually easier. A transformer
is a very simple, easy to understand component with a very clear
function in a pipeline. That automatically gives it a very big advantage
to any newbie, and to a lot of more experienced users.
