The locking is done automatically by the software, so that two users cannot 
work together on the same file and one overwriting the changes of the other. 

To unlock change first the setting within nautilus to show the hidden files. 
Then go into the same directory, where your file is and you'll see there a file 
with a similar name that ends in .lck. Delete this file and you can edit your 
original file again as before.
