I strongly back up this request. I created a bug requesting this feature on 2011-05-12 .
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37134 It's very helpful when you write a paper or an article and have to deal with 5-15 reference/source texts at once. Without tabs you are simply lost... As most of the users and developers don't see the point in it, it could be done as an extension, i.e. the existing OO.o extension can be reworked.
