I already tried to add a formula by clicking Insert -> Object -> Formula in Writer, and I got the problem described in my original post. Here is a screenshot of what I see in a Writer document after I do Insert -> Object -> Formula: http://imgur.com/HevWr On the side there is also the Elements window, but there is NO Commands window, nor any space for me to enter the markup. I also tried to look for the "small dotted area indicating a hidden window", but can't find it... If I try to enter "A =left[matrix{1 # 2 # 3 ## 4 # 5 # 6 ## 7 # 8 # 9}right] " directly into the formula box in the document, I get this: http://imgur.com/ZBIns I also already downloaded the LO Math guide, but it doesn't help. The screenshot in the guide shows the LO Writer window "split" in half, where the bottom half is for entering the markup. But again, as you can see in my posted screenshots, there is no such place. I am very confused, can you point me further in the right direction?
