It sounds like there was probably some weird problem in the file.  

Can you make a bac-up copy of the new version that does work and then copy from 
the original dodgy file try copy&paste but do a "Paste Special" instead of a 
normal paste
Ctrl Shift v
or  from the menus try
Edit - Paste Special
Either way try to untick all the options except "formats".  Hopefully that 
might fix the formats without re-introducing the problem.  If the problem does 
happen again after pasting the formats then you have the copy you made to use 
instead.
