Presumably yes, if it has sufficient creative content. (E.g. people don't generally believe in line breaks these days...) Presumably Univa's lawyer will set the rules for contributions to their repo. The GNU maintainers' guide has the FSF's advice on legal significance, but that might differ. > Algorithms can be patented, but copyrighting an algorithm can be hard, > if not impossible. [Not patented legitimately in reasonable jurisdictions (which doesn't help with reality), but that's clearly not relevant to a bug fix.] > I don't think there is a definition on how much we can copy, and I > don't think we can claim that this is "fair use", as the way Oracle > fixed it is: If you can't at least claim "fair use" (not a term of UK law), that might be a problem... As far as I remember, the Oracle terms include some clause specifically forbidding disclosure of information over and above straight copyright. Could people please not post proprietary information without legal advice we all understand. It may compromise others making changes. IANAL, &c, &c. _______________________________________________ users mailing list [email protected] https://gridengine.org/mailman/listinfo/users
