There was a short discussion some time back (in dev) about whether to commit to c89 or c99 syntax. The c++ comments slip in from time to time - and note it is in php that the c++ comments are giving the problem. Apache is "clean" and compiles fine against cc defaults (i.e. c89 syntax).
