At this time, Kannel does the full abstraction of the SMSC client side of gatewaying archtecture. On the server side it abstracts towards HTTP. My Kannel SMPP server (smppbox) is an add-on component that is capable to act as SMPP v3.4 and EMI/UCP 4.0 server, hence leaveraging own SMPP accounts to the bearerbox SMSC connections.
