If you are up to figuring out Linux, that would let you take an older
system/laptop/desktop and run a current, secure, Linux distribution - that's
the low $ suggestion.

An older MacMini (maybe an M1?) would let you run an older edition of macOS but
still be in your familiar Mac OS/Environment.

Chirp really puts very little demands on the system it runs on, anything you're
comfortable putting on your desk would be adequate - you don't need anything
special. Many folks get low-end laptops desktops running Win11 and dedicate
them to Radio software/activities.

With Win 10 going off support next month, those machines will be VERY
affordable, and would make great Linux desktops.

Good luck,
