Of course!  This is a problem that should never need a reinstall. 

I assume you only have a problem after login.  Do you know how to boot into 
multi-user target?  If so, log into the text console and move aside 
~/.config/monitors.xml. You might be able to get to a working tty right now by 
hitting control-alt-F3, but I don’t know if your monitor is awake to show the 
console.
