By default (!= mandatory!), Fedora keeps 5 old kernels when a
kernel is
patched or updated, right?
4 kernels including rescue
By default, how does Fedora handle rescue kernels?
Updating rescue kernels is left to the user. I update it to a current
kernel
if it has been problem-free for a week or so. For that, a USB Live
Installer
may be needed.

If you only want a 2nd distro as a backup when Fedora fails to boot,
you might
be better off using a Live USB installer. If you just want Ubuntu as
a backup
when the Fedora version of a program has an issue, consider running
Ubuntu
in a VM.

Thank-you, George.
I don't recall ever using a VM, at least not within the past dozen
years. I am concerned about how much of a learning cure is involved, to
install, to set up, to maintain, and to use. But it's something to keep
in mind once the new desktop is stable.
