I have the compressed BIOS update file on the windows-10 desktop.
Instructions say to uncompress and copy to a USB stick that "must use
the FAT32/16/12 file system". Question: On that windows-10 (home)
desktop, how do I format the stick to the appropriate file system?
If the USB stick was still factory formatted, it's probably already in
a compatible state (particularly if it's not a mega huge sized stick).
Though EX-FAT is a common default, these days.
I don't use Windows (for over 20 years), so I'm unfamiliar with it.
But you used to have some hardware tools that told you properties of
connected drives. It might even be possible to just right-click on the
drive in the file explorer, now. You could look to see if you can find
out how it's currently set up. And you should have formatting options,
if you choose to format the stick, that gives you FAT32 as one of the
choices.
It did not occur to me that the windows file explorer would have
something to show stick properties. It does. I found an old stick with
a back-up of the old desktop's motherboard's BIOS. The file explorer's
properties thing shows it's FAT32, exactly what I wanted. It also has
more than enough free space.
Thank-you, Tim.
