This looks like you got the dracut fix.

But you are still subject to the significant increase in growth of nvidia
firmware since June. I do not know why your firmware is still this big because
the total size of nvidia firmware now is about 100 MB. So that means minus that
firmware, your initramfs is still 56 MB which is twice what I'd expect after
dracut fixes.

sudo lsinitrd -s /boot/initramfs-6.16.8-200.fc42.x86_64.img

That'll provide a reverse sorted ordering to see what else is in your initramfs
that's taking up so much room.

This is what I'm recommending for Fedora 43 for new installations.

Correct. But I don't know why that rescue initramfs is "only" 177 MB having
been created in September, after the growth of nvidia firmware by something
like 60 MB overnight.

That's right because the rescue initramfs is ostensibly for booting the drive
on a system with arbitrary hardware including adding an Nvidia card.

The smaller initramfs's are hostonly but there are two modes, strict and
sloppy. What these mean are still being hashed out upstream. But we got a bunch
of updates to the sloppy mode that made them increase in size by quite a lot,
and now those changes have been reverted on Fedora 42.

So the reverted dracut change helps, but we're stuck with the explosive
increase in size of all firmware generally, but this time around nvidia really
got a lot bigger due to the addition of just a couple of firmware files.
