Oh my problem apps see them, they just can't use them. Printing just disappears into a black hole.
I have this problem from time to time with a printer connected via USB. Sometimes it helps to reset the particular USB port, sometimes it is necessary to shut down the printer, disconnect it, reset the USB port and reconnect the printer. Sometimes the only solution is reboot.
It happens around once a month but lately (knock on wood) it has not happened.
