I don't know about the original poster, but wouldn't help for the thing
I noticed it with (e.g. MuseScore as an appimage).  You have a generic
app that's supposed to work everywhere, but it's the lowest common
denominator, ignoring any distro-specific features.  And there's the
sandboxing to contend with, too.

That said, yes printers are one of those dire bits of technology where
you can expect to have power-cycle and factory reset things.  And all
those fancy features it touted were only available with the Windows
driver they released at the time, and never updated, that only worked
with the Windows release of the same time.  Then you're expected to buy
a new printer when you update your computer.

Oh, and things (here) had been through reboots, and power outages. 
It's consistent behaviour.  Trying to print with appimage software is a
pain.

I'd also found that some printouts would upset the CUPs server, it
would error and go into offline mode, requiring you to re-enable the
printer in CUPs.  A rather stupid default behaviour.
