Is auto deleting cookies still relevant?  Firefox has added better support for deleting cookies and other site data: <https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/clear-cookies-and-site-data-firefox>

Depends on your threat model. If you want someone who has access to your account not to be able to tell that you have a cookie from a particular site, you still need to purge them somehow.

If you have regular privacy needs, the "Total Cookie Protection" feature should cover the threats that people had been using cookie clearing extensions for.

I maintain a list of what I think are the biggest impact privacy tools and settings for the time investment and I don't have cookie clearing on there any more.

Close but no cigar, I want to remove cookies when a tab is closed, not just isolate them for a site.
The isolation is still a good idea for privacy/tracking between sites.

This (an other similar blogs) are always a good read, and need to be revisited periodically. The target is moving fast...

I don't know if it is of any benefit, but I have always had Firefox configured to delete cookies and site data on close.
