Yes, I joined Ingres Corp (Relational Technology Inc at the time) in 1989
and this stuff was already written, though I don't remember this issue. (I
was the group's VAX/VMS internals expert and didn't use Unix much, so
maybe it behaves differently on VMS - I don't recall.)
