Thanks, Karl, your post brought up an interesting question: What's the
correct interconnection sequence for a JDBC connection? Is Ingres Net even
involved? I immediately had a flash, followed up, and moved forward a huge
step. Here's the thing; you're RIGHT, Karl; DAS - IIGCD - was supposed to
respond, not IIGCN. So, I figured that I should check and BOTH were trying
to listen on port 1523. Very Odd, as I only recall trying to set it on
IIGCD, but _maybe_ I screwed up and set it on IIGCN too. Geez, I've only
been trying to do this for about five days! -shrug- Presumption: I
mistakenly updated IIGCN instead of IIGCD at some point.

Easy test: shutdown IIGCN and try again, as the Ingres user but connecting
as my authorized user - INSTANT CONNECTION! LOTS of great stuff in the
jdbc log file... Next, SU to the target user and tried again, and this
time it failed with: "User authorization check failed." I then tried to
connect to the db with one of the several terminal monitors using both the
-u and -P flags, again, without problem.

So, now the only problem is understanding how to get it to let me connect
via JDBC as an alternative user. At this point, I don't understand how a
local user gets in when an identical authorization with jdbc doesn't.
Some comment on this would be timely!

Thanks again,
Richard

P.S. Any ideas how/where this can/should be put as a write up to help
others who follow? I'm not able to search the usenet groups, so I guess
others might be in a similar boat. Should I enter this into one of the web
based forrums? ... Where the heck is our community centered, anyway?! RT
