I was not sure what the problem was - only clue was that it was related to maven. After googling around, I came across few solutions, with one being setting MAVEN_OPTS as explained in this article: http://www.waltercedric.com/java-j2ee-mainmenu-53/361-maven-build-system/1360-get-more-speed-with-your-maven2-build.html
