Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately the same behavior when running Maven in a Windows command-line (cmd.exe).
Running "mvn -X" does not provide much useful information, as far as I can tell, just a timeout after around 30 minutes: [DEBUG] Using connector WagonRepositoryConnector with priority 0 for http://repo.maven.apache.org/maven2 Downloading: http://repo.maven.apache.org/maven2/org/codehaus/groovy/groovy/1.8.3/groovy-1.8.3.jar [DEBUG] Writing resolution tracking file C:\Users\Henrik Arro\.m2\repository\org\codehaus\groovy\groovy\1.8.3\groovy-1.8.3.jar.lastUpdated [INFO] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [INFO] BUILD FAILURE [INFO] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [INFO] Total time: 30:02.959s [INFO] Finished at: Wed Apr 25 09:35:49 CEST 2012 [INFO] Final Memory: 10M/105M [INFO] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [ERROR] Failed to execute goal org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-archetype-plugin:2.2:generate (default-cli) on project standalone-pom: Execution default-cli of goal org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-archetype-plugin:2.2:generate failed: Plugin o rg.apache.maven.plugins:maven-archetype-plugin:2.2 or one of its dependencies could not be resolved: Could not transfer artifact org.codehaus.groovy:groovy:jar:1.8.3 from/to central (http://repo.maven.apache.org/maven2): GET request of: org/codehaus/groovy/groovy/1.8.3/groovy-1.8.3.jar from central failed: Read timed out -> [Help 1] ...
