Title: Moving to JDK 1.4

Pretty soon, we are going to start a trajectory to test the mmbase 1.7 release.
Before we do this, there will be a releaseplan, as well as much gnawing and gnashing of teeth.

One element I personally would like to see in the release plan for 1.7 is to move MMBase from the current support for JDK 1.3 to JDK 1.4. 1.4 has several useful features, but is not fully compatible with 1.3.

This means it costs some pains to compile MMBase under 1.4, though its is no problem to RUN a JDK 1.3 MMBase under JDK 1.4

Before casting a vote, I would like to start a discussion.
What do you think about moving to JDK 1.4?
I know there is in general a fair amount of support for this idea, so I would particulary like to hear if there are people who oppose it.

If there is no opposition we can simply move on. Otherwise, a vote may be necessary.
