I saw that you used the attribute immediate="true". I guess this is the problem because if I understand it correctly immediate means that after process validiations it goes directly to the phase Render Response.
If you don't have a good reason for it, delete it.

Can you do some debuggin by checking into FacesServlet and going
through the lifecycle?
