Question on t:calendar popup value binding

Hi,

I am trying to use a calendar popup. What should be the type of the property that binds to the value of the popup? I looked at the examples source, it uses a date. Does it have to be a Date or can I use a String for the same? Which date format does it assume by default, e.g. - mm/dd/yyyy or what?
