SVN can't be considered the same as CVS.

Half of the projects I'm working on still use SVN.
It would be a major PITA if NetBeans would not support that any more.

SVN is ideal for projects that have limited scope where GIT and Mercurial are overkill. If it becomes moribund and is no longer supported by its team, I would expect it to wither away of its own accord.
