That's completely inappropriate. It's not up to you or the NetBeans
project to "discourage its use", especially since Subversion is also an
Apache project.

CVS is another story entirely.

P.S. I'm speaking as someone who has migrated from svn to git.

SVN will live on forever, as will CVS and Clearcase. There will always be some enterprise somewhere that uses it. As someone rightfully said, let's judge by real usage numbers.

How much development effort is involved in keeping SVN support (is it already working? Is keeping support "free"?) vs what percentage of our users actively use it. Is it 1%? 10%? 50%?
