I know this is an old post but I'm facing a similar scenario. Currently I'm using "buildSchema" during development, which is great. But I need to configure my project to be able to build the schema when it is executed for the first time and only to validate the schema the next times it will run. Anybody has some suggestion? I'm not so familiarized with OpenJPA properties, sorry.
