Strange problem. And of course using the backgroundcolor icon on the toolbar (4th from right) gives the same result...
It's OK with me on XPHome SP1 OOo 1.1.2.
When I look at the Tools|Options|Worksheet|Layout, I do not see any setting that I would associate with you problem. Have you tried?
Or maybe anyone else?
