Thank you for the suggestion.

Opening content.xml as text found no occurrence of table:dde-link or
anything like it.  A small piece of hopeful news is that opening the same
file as an html file did give me the basic text which I have saved as a text
file, just in case.

Is there another file in the unzipped set that I should look in?
