I am trying to replace MS Office with OpenOffice (in the guise of
NeoOfficeJ, since I use a Mac with OS X.

One of the few things I've not been able to figure out how to do is to
reformat a document. I'm on one particular mailing list and I like to
have all the mails that I read in a similar format. 

To do this I wish to do the following:

1. Find all instances of 2 successive newlines and replace them with a
tab.
2. Now find all other instances of a newline and replace them with a
space.
3. Finally replace the tab stops with 2 newlines.

Simple enough under (pardon my language) MS Word. How the heck do I do
this under OpenOffice?
