No, just a way to read two files that a friend sent to me.  Nothing
important.  I'll just request him to save them in a different format if
possible and resend them.

I found a number of MDB coverters using Google, but none of them are
free and I don't need to spend money on the conversion of just two files.

So, I guess my question would still stand as to if OO will go full bore
as a replacement for major M$ office type programs?
