Forgot to mention. When a Windows computer logs on to an Active
Directory domain, security policies can be pushed down to the computer,
that determine exactly what a user is or isn't allowed to do. This
includes permissions on folders or whether a storage device plugged into
a USB port will be recognized etc. Setting this up is part of the
system admin's job.
When I did SysAdmin work there were not USB or flash drives.
That was when NT 4.0 came out. My boss did not know how to
network PCs, just mainframes and I had to hook up the first coax
network for the PCs there.
