The differences between OpenOffice.org and Microsoft Office 2003 are not that great. Except that Office 2003 is no longer fully supported by Microsoft. In theory then the OO.o community could try to narrow the gap that exists between the two. But why would you, this would be emulating six year old software. Some minor improvements were made in patches and extentions to Office 2003 but do not much affect day to day use. The differences between OO.o and Office 2007 are quite striking. Office 2007 introduced the ribbon, which can actually require businesses to retrain office staff. It uses an orphan default save format which is like saving into a time capsule (who will have a program which will open the file once te time capsule is opened?). It also uses a new barstardised ODF save format which does not work with existing programs. OO.o threfore is similar to Office 2003 but with newer features to take into account developments since 2003. The existing Migration Guide is therefore a good starting point for comparison between them. Real development has only really occured on OO.o and Office 2007 (and the as yet unreleased Office 14) since then. A list of OO.o features added since the Migration Guides release is virtually all the additional documentation you will need. The only other caveat i would add is that professional houses should force all saves to be in ODF 1.1 format. ODF 1.2 does not really exist yet.
