I newly am working with open office 3.2.0. On another computer I created all
the documents I need I worked with Microsoft Word:MAC 1983-2001.

WhenI try to open these documents (doc or xls) open office tells me that these
are not winword97 documents and can't open them. what can I do?

thank you for a quick answer!

Hi,

I used to work with Macintosh before and then changed to Windows. If you are using a Mac you need to change the format of these files with a newer version of Office for Macintosh to a version that is compatible with WinWord97 and then try to open the files.

However, if your environment is Windows (or Linux) then the road is longer. You need to have a MS Office that has the converters for WordForMacintosh 6 and older, the only version of Office that does have those is MS Office 97 (you need have access to Windows 97/2000 as it is only for it), install it and then read the files and save as new files keeping the originals. MS Office 2000 or newer are not able to read Office Mac files that are older than version 6 as they do not have those converters. I am not sure if Office downloads still have the old versions and the converters available.

If the above is not possibile. There are also translators that can do the job. Those you find googleing with words: convert macword winword. I had one that worked before well, but that was for Windows 98 and consequently on Vista it does not run any more.

Hope this helps to guide you to the "right" direction.

Heikki
