Thanks for letting me know I did get rid of the office application to save some
space. As for the Google docs and new Microsoft stuff the reliability of the
connection should not be the problem as I have a good connection.

I would have used Google docs but they are not as professional as Open Office.

I guess I could get my brother to look at extra hard drives.

As I said - Thumb drive for $10 - $15 with the Portable OOo application. The app is stored on the thumb drive and run off that thumb drive. No files are stored on your computer, unless you save
your data on your own hard drive.

HOW much drive storage do you have;
Total?
Free space?

I run a laptop with 80 gig and use OOo along with many other programs and a lot of files [including music, video, fonts, and such]. I have used 20 and 40 gig external
drives to help when I wend below 20 gig free space.

I used a 40/80/80gig 3 drive server as my file server before I got this desktop. Now I have over 500 gigs of data stored on a data partition of my desktop that I just moved to the 1 TB external. I will be wiping the desktop clean and rebuilding the desktop back to a single partition [ 1TB ] Ubuntu system. Then I will copy the files back to the system. I will keep the data on the external one for a backup, along with keeping the external drive updated with the new data from the email client and the browser's bookmarks, plus any other files I create/change. I have over 11,300 files totaling 310 gig, JUST in my audio/video folders. I have over 10 gig of font files [over 200,000 fonts] stored on the external for use by anyone I choose to share them. Also I use it to backup my digital photos from 2005 till now [over 27 gig and about 8,000 photos].

No matter what your current system has internal. Since using CD/DVDs as backups would take too many, the use of the external drive for a backup is the way to go. Using one for your system's extra needed space, is a no-brainer. They have a new hard drive dock where you dock you drive like you would your iPod. You dock your drive, backup your files to it, then place it a safe location. I have a box of 10+ 20-40 gig drives as a backup from my old laptops. Now I have the 1 TB drive. Before the end of summer, I hope to buy at least one more, and I am on a fixed Disability income. Still I can afford one with the prices you can
see now.

You need to get the external drive. You will thank yourself later.
