I have participated a bit in this thread because I have a problem printing to
a network printer from OOo 1.1.3 on Ubuntu. OOo calls it "Generic
Printer," does not understand any of its features, and can't even send the
file to the right network address. Every other app on my Ubuntu-64
computer has no problem printing to it and all features and options are
listed. I was told to fix this with spadmin, but it's so buggy I can't get it
to
stay up long enough to click on any of the buttons to do anything with it.

Finally, I decided to install the latest beta of 2.0. I tried it with Synaptic,
but
got error messages that files were missing (not in the repository). Then I
tried downloading the beta from Sun, but when I untared it, it was all
RPMs. When I tried to convert them to .debs with alien, alien puked them
all up and no .debs were created. (A couple pages of error messages.)

I had totally given up until this morning I got a message from someone on a
local Linux e-list that he had successfully installed the 2.0 beta on his
Debian machine. He gave me a couple more sources to add to my
sources.list file. I gave it a quick shot this morning, but Synaptic errored
out trying his sources. I'll fiddle with it some more later today after
classes.
Maybe it's possible to get the 2.0 beta installed after all. Evidently some
else did. And if anyone else has it running on a Debian distro, please let
me know what repository you got it from. :)
