http://support.openoffice.org/index.html http://documentation.openoffice.org/ OOo can certainly coexist with MS Office, so you can leave that installed. OOo is able to read and write documents in MS Office formats, though there may be (usually minor) formatting differences. One point causing concern is that on installing OOo you are asked if you want to associate it with MS Office files. If you answer "Yes" to this, OOo will become the default program on your system for eg .doc files. This is readily changed, but does confuse some novices.
