That doesn't sound as if you are really using the brochure feature. Brochure prints documents such that the first sheet printed will have the Title page and the last page of the document (perhaps even a blank page inserted) and page two and the second last page on the obverse et cetera. What you describe appears to me to be the output from Print preview.
