There is indeed added value in the StarOffice product. The entire product line used to be available free, but some corporate groups refused to use a free product. Then they said, "Hey, it cost money, sure, you can use it." It was the strangest thing. On the other hand, you get support when you pay for a product, well, usually you do.

They give away lots of things, like Java... They have a lot of very interesting reasons for doing such things.
