Did you try executing the "soffice" program found in c:
\programs\openoffice.org2.0.2\programs (or equivalent folder) ?
Did you try executing the program from the Windows shell to see if you got any more output ? Did you verify that the MD5SUM utility verified that your download was not corrupted ?

Executing the programs -- this is what the installer-supplied shortcuts did, I assume, with no more effect than some hourglass mouse pointer flickerage. Surely the installer got the shortcuts right -- even *Microsoft's* installers tend to point the newly-created shorcuts at the appropriate executables, even if said executables don't work or crash all the time. :)

From shell: No. Perhaps I'll try that.

MD5sum: the self-extractor did a self-test and pronounced itself OK.
