To me, this might warrant an issue to have the developers evaluate how
the mail merge sends an email.
Create an account on the site (if you don't have one), then file a new
issue and provide as much info as possible. Perhaps even search for
another issue in case someone else has already opened one, then you can
add your comments and vote for it.

HTML requires that the images be separate entities. So did you attach
them to your email?

Images are NOT embedded in HTML as I said. So you must include them.
