No, this does not open the email client and that would make no sense to me if it did. Other than the non-attachment of images, the mail merge works well and will be a useful feature.

One more improvement would be a field to include the sender's name. At the moment you can only choose the sender's address.

I have been using HTML for 10 years, however knowledge of HTML is not
relevant to my question.

I compose a page in Writer, which includes an image. Then I use the
'mail merge wizard' to create an email merge. I select to distribute it
as an email, and use the 'html message' option. There are NO OPTIONS
relating to including/attaching images. The next step is simply to send
out the emails, but the images are not included. I have no idea why you
keep suggesting that I attach the images to the email as there is no
apparent option to do so.

One simple question. When you do a mail merge, does this open the email client? If so, have you tried to attach the images using this email window?

How do I attach them to the mail? The mail merge wizard didn't offer any
image options. If the image is embedded in the page, why doesn't the
mail merge include them automatically?

I just upgraded to OO 2.0.3 on Win XP and tried email merge for the
first time. It worked straight away but the images are missing from
the sent HTML emails. There is a blank image 'container' embedded in
the email which I assume indicates that there is an <img> tag in the
email, including the correct dimensions, but the image source can't be
found.

This is probably a bug but is there a workaround?
HTML requires that the images be separate entities. So did you attach
them to your email?
For information on HTML, please see http://www.w3.org/
Images are NOT embedded in HTML as I said. So you must include them.
