Perhaps you could provide a small wiki (or other publicly editable page) consisting of a two column table. The first column would be the name of the language. The second column would be a link to the document in that language. This column would be editable by the folk maintaining that document. The English document would contain a link to this page with a brief explanation in, say, English, French, German and Spanish (add more to taste). Possibly each language would be allowed several entries, for different topics. Perhaps a minimum of one entry per component of OpenOffice - writer, calc, base, impress and draw.

If you provided the wiki then it would be the responsibility of each language group to ensure its links didn't break. Each language group could also decide how it wanted to organise its section of the table so that you wouldn't need to enforce a strict format. For example, the French group might want to include a link to the French language discussion forum but some other group/s might not.

The wiki itself would be yours, so you could ensure the link to it didn't break.

Subject: [users] Linking OOo Help and OOo community documentation

Hi,

we (the authors of StarOffice and OpenOffice.org Help) would like to give more links from the (F1) Help to the documentation on documentation.openoffice.org. May be to other Web sites, too.

However, there are possible problematic areas:
- we really don't want to get broken links (addresses should stay unchanged over several years, including file names, or there must always be a valid redirection) - we can only give a link to one document in one language; there is no automatic language context switching as for many Web sites, and most documents are available only in one language anyhow.

What do you think?

Regards
Uwe
