Hi Shoshannah, Thanks for the quick reply. >I don't know BibleTime (I don't use KDE), but I do use Hebrew all the >time. >A few general thins to check: >1) That you have Hebrew fonts installed and recognized by OpenOffice/ Check. >2) That you have turned on Hebrew support in OpenOffice (under tools-- >options--languages and mark "enable CTL") Check >3) Make sure that are running under a unicode locale. To check your >locale: open a terminal window, and type the command >locale >make sure that the output includes utf-8 options (and not for example >"posix"). will try this later. But I guess, Im okay with this. I have other apps displaying my hebrew fonts nicely (Ezra SIL and also Tahoma).
>4) Does pasting Hebrew from Firefox work? For example, from my >website? (url in sig). I will also try this. This*was* my problem in the past. Pasting hebrew scriptures off the web using Firefox. The above procedures you mentioned solved it (Plus, changing my Encoding under Tools>Options>Load/Save>HTML Compatability). >On cavet- although OpenOffice works great with modern Hebrew, it has >a few issues with biblical Hebrew (vowel placement under linux isn't >optimal) I found a workaround here. I copy and pasted the text in KWrite, then saved the document as ODT. Then I fired up OOo and it displayed the text (with all the vowel pointings nicely laid out). Now, if I can only do it directly in OOo Writer, the better. Shalom!
