To date the major purpose of clamAV on Linux is to watch for Windows
viruses being passed through on emails. We'll do our bit to protect you
lesser mortals from malicious software.

On Linux rootkits are the more troublesome concern.

Rootkits may or may not be checked for with linux AV software, the main
protective program is a piece of software called checkrootkit.

This is a healthy attitude to have, and is the attitude of practically
all linux users.
